Schriever spouse wins Air Force Space Command Spouse of the Year Award

Release Number: 020218

Air Force Space Command officials announced Natalie McCoy as the command’s 2018 Spouse of the Year, and she will now go on to compete for the Joan Orr Air Force Spouse of the Year Award.

McCoy is the spouse of Tech. Sgt. Steven McCoy, of the 50th Security Forces Squadron, and she manages the Schriever Fitness Assessment Center. Some of her accomplishments include her as the lead volunteer for three major base events, contributing more than 25 hours with set up and clean up. She volunteered as a Child Development Center Parent Advisory Board chair, hosting council meetings, elevating parent-issues and ultimately enhancing the program for 170 youth. She also created the Little Airmen’s Council and helped raise $1.4K for the CDC and School Age programs.

“It’s not always easy being a military spouse, especially if your husband is a shift-worker when he’s not deployed,” said Lt. Col. Michael Speck, 50th Security Forces Squadron commander. “Natalie has embraced the military life and not only supports Steven, but her efforts directly affect the lives of many Airmen at Schriever.”

The award, sponsored by the Air Force Association, recognizes the significant contributions made by non-military spouses of Air Force military members.

“Natalie is a great example of a selfless military spouse,” said Melanie Speck, Schriever Spouses Club member and mentor. “She has been deserving of this recognition for several years, and I’m so happy she was selected at the Air Force Space Command level this year. I only hope her award package captures just how worthy she is to represent the entire Air Force.”

If McCoy wins the Air Force level award, the AFA will present the award to McCoy in September at the 2018 Air and Space Conference and Technology Exposition in Washington, D.C.
