OFFICIALS ID BARRICADED MEMBER

Release Number: 041111

Schriever officials have identified the 50th Security Forces Squadron member who barricaded himself inside the deployment processing building here Monday as Airman 1st Class Nico Cruz Santos.

Santos willingly surrendered to authorities at about 8 p.m. last night and is in confinement at the Teller County confinement facility.

No one was injured or harmed throughout the incident.

Santos is awaiting sentencing in Gilpin County from unrelated charges earlier this year.

It is expected that once the investigation of yesterday's incident is complete that additional charges may be filed in either the military or civilian court systems.

"While there are lessons to be learned from every situation, by and large yesterday's incident was resolved with the best possible outcome," said Col. James P. Ross, 50th Space Wing commander. "Our law enforcement and community partners worked together to ensure the security of our mission and people while helping this Airmen through a troubling situation. Their efforts ensured a bad situation didn't get worse."

This incident remains under investigation at this time.
