“I am the first generation of my family born in the United States. My mother was born in a small village in Greece and my father was a refugee from Cuba. When Castro took over in the 1960s, he fled with his family at only six years old. To me and my family, the American dream is still very much alive. My family chose the U.S.; some fled, some came willingly, but America will always be our home and the Fourth of July really brings out the spirit that deep down, we are Americans first.”
