6/17/2010 - SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.  -- Wing celebrates promotions
The 50th Space Wing will hold monthly wing promotion ceremonies. These ceremonies are not to take away from squadron functions but to provide an open invitation for all to share in the recognition of wing members' career milestones. The promotion ceremony will recognize all ranks being promoted monthly. The first ceremony will be held July 1 at 3:30 p.m. in the main fitness center.

Volunteer Opportunity
The 50th Space Wing is looking for 20 volunteers for the upcoming Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo July 14-17. Duties include: usher, security, tickets, sale programs, display posters around town and to help building the 50th SW float. Contact Senior Master Sgt.

Crafters Wanted!
Attention all crafters and home based business owners: if you are interested in opportunities for table space during the Schriever picnic, call Amber Winter at 567-5908. Deadline to reserve a table is July 9. Asian Pacific Customer Appreciation Meal Asian Pacific Customer Appreciation Meal will be at the Schriever Satellite Dish dining facility June 23, 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy Asian Pacific selections such as chicken wild rice soup, sweet and sour pork, chicken stir fry, tempura fish, lo mein noodles and more! Safe Kids 101
This "home alone" class helps to prepare kids to stay safe at home and
in the community. It will be held June 25, 1-4:30 pm at the Airman & Family Readiness Center. Children must be 9-14 years of age to attend. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

Home Buying
Looking at buying a home in the next 12 months? Not sure where to go to get objective, educational information? This class will explain everything from house hunting to closing costs. We've even tossed in information on buying foreclosed homes. Participants
will walk away with a step-by-step guide to assist in getting started on the right path to buying the home of their dreams. The next class is scheduled
for June 24, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

"Students at the Center" Resource Guide
Students at the Center, a new educational resource from DoDEA's Educational Partnership, is available now in print and on a CD through Military OneSource at http://www.militaryonesource.com. The guide provides information on important policies,

Airman & Family Readiness Center information fair
The Schriever Satellite dish dining facility will be hosting an information fair, Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's your chance to gather information about upcoming classes, talk to a community readiness consultant, and learn about other services we offer. Applying for Federal Jobs
The Schriever Airman & Family Readiness Center and the Schriever Civilian Personnel office team up to bring you the 10 most crucial steps you need to know in your process
of applying for federal employment. It is helpful to navigate your way through some job descriptions on www.usajobs.gov before coming to the class. It is part of the TAP
workshop, so seating will be limited. The class is on Friday, at the Airman & Family
Readiness Center. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

Medical records review for VA
disability claim Any military member 180 days from separation or retirement should start thinking about starting a disability claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The initial medical records review will be provided by the Disabled American Veterans. The
records reviews are by appointment only, and a copy of your medical records is mandatory. The one-hour brief is Friday at 8 a.m. at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. T-65. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

LinkedIn
This class is to familiarize military members with the benefits of using LinkedIn as a part of their job search. The class is part of the TAP workshop and seating will be limited.

at 567-3920 to sign up. Need a listening ear? The Military and Family Life Consultant is available every day, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Chaplain's office, Bldg. 300, for dropin

Survivor Benefit Plan
The SBP was developed to meet the needs of the family for continuous income protection following a member's death. SBP is a non-profit annuity program which is administered by the government. Coverage is free while the member remains on active
duty. After retirement, monthly premiums are held in the Military Retirement System
Trust Fund and benefits are paid to eligible survivors from that fund. As a result, the
retiree has the assurance of a well-managed program without having to pay administrative expenses. Prior to retiring, you will have an opportunity to enroll in the SBP. If you have not heard from the SBP Counselor for a briefing no later than 120 days prior to your retirement or have any questions about the program, please call your SBP Counselor, Mr. Kevin Mitchell, located in the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg T-65 at 567-4037/3920.

Student summer hire program applications being accepted
The 50th Space Wing is holding a 2010 summer employment program. The program provides job skills and experience to students at least 16 years of age and enrolled in school part time. For more information, call Bryant Rushing at 567-5221.

Fitness center annex has new hours
The fitness center annex is now open Monday thru Friday from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information at 567-6628.

Special duty panel needs volu nteers
The Team Schriever Professional Development Team is looking for personnel who have served in a special duty position to sit on a panel June 25 at 2 p.m. in Bldg. 210, Rm. 310. For more information call Master Sgt. Cassandra Bushyeager at 567-5927.

50th FSS activity closures for Friday
The following 50th Force Support Squadron facilities/activities will close at 11 a.m., Friday due to an official function: 50th FSS command section, installation personnel readiness, NAF financial management, manpower and personnel, civilian personnel, NAF human resources, and the military personnel section. Water World and Elitch Garden
tickets available at outdoor recreation Single-day tickets for Water World are now available for $29 (adult or child) at Outdoor Recreation in Bldg. 300, Rm. 133. Water World opened May 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Elitch Garden tickets are available for $21 each or buy three for $63 and get one free. For more information, call Brian

EOC and PME testing resumed End Of Course and Professional Military Education testing system is down but, they are allowing base Training Managers to do manual verifications. We ask individuals to be patient after testing as scoring will take time for AU to verify scores. Training managers and individuals testing on SOS must contact Ms. Brautigam at 567-5903 to schedule testing.

Royal Gorge tickets now available at ITT
Royal Gorge tickets are now available at Bldg. 300, room 133. Purchase adult tickets for $18.50 ($25 at the gate) and child (ages 4-11) tickets for $13.50 ($19 at the gate). Ticket prices include all available park rides, shows and attractions with the exception of the Royal Rush Skycoaster and horseback riding. For more information, please call Brian

FitFamily Duathlon
The 50th Force Support Squadron will be hosting a Fit Family Duathlon June 24. The race starts at 9 a.m. and consists of a one-mile run, a ten-mile mountain-bike ride, followed by another one-mile run. Participants must register by Wednesday and should arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. on the day of the race. For more information and for registration, please call the Main Fitness Center at 567-6628.

Sports Advisory Council Meeting
There will be a sports advisory council meeting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, in Bldg 300, Rm 122. It is mandatory for each unit to send a representative to the meeting.

Men's shower fitness annex closure
The men's shower in the fitness annex will be closed while repairs are made. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks. The showers in Bldg. 500 will be available

"Joining Forces II Day" at Elitch Gardens!
Aug. 21 is Joining Forces II Day at Elitch Gardens. The park is open from 10 a.m to 9p.m. Tickets are $27 and can be purchased at Schriever AFB Outdoor Recreation. There is a
lunch included with the ticket price and will be served from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mountain Grove pavilions. Please note the park will be open to the general public and the water park will be open as well. For more information, please contact Brian Mitchell at 567-2015.
