10/24/2012 - SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Water out at main fitness center
All water will be shut off to the Main Fitness Center including restrooms, showers, and washers today from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This water outage is essential to complete annual backflow prevention testing and repair to ensure the quality of the potable water system. Please plan your workouts accordingly.
50 SW holiday party holds child care survey
Do you need time away to celebrate all the hard work you've endured during the past 12 months? Well, the 50 SW Holiday Party is just around the corner. The 50 SW Holiday Party Planning Committee is taking a survey to find out how many people would like free daycare, so they can celebrate and attend the 50 SW Holiday Party on Dec. 7. Care would take place at the Peterson Child Development Center. If you are interested, please send an email or call with the age(s) of your children to Master Sgt. Patricia Ford at 567-5593 or 2nd. Lt. Tobias Pedretti at 567-3353. Please respond no later than today so we can present the number to the 50 SW Commander and secure the daycare providers for the evening.
Peterson hosts adoption reception
In conjunction with National Adoption Month, Col. Kay Barrish and Bob Barrish will host a reception for military members and spouses interested in learning more about fostering and adopting children. Topics will include Military and Civil Service Adoption Benefits, Working with Adoption Agencies, Certification and Training. The reception will be held 3 - 5 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Peterson Club. Seating is limited to the first 20 people, so please call 556-9503 today to reserve your spot!
CE to remodel Bldg. 400 bathrooms
AGS will be remodeling the bathrooms on the north side of Bldg. 400 from Nov. 4 until Jan. 31. During the remodel all the bathrooms on the North Side of the building will be closed. Occupants are requested to use the South side bathrooms which will remain open.
Chapel sponsors youth lock in
Calling all teens to a night of crazy sugar craved fun, Nov. 9! There will be board & video games, floor hockey and snacks. Bring your own games & treats to share and a sleeping bag (just in case you get 5 minutes of sleep). Ages 8-16 are welcome. For more information and to sign up call the base chapel at 567-3705.
Fitness center holds annual turkey trot
The Annual 5K Turkey Trot Run/Walk will be held on Nov. 16 starting at 9 a.m. No registration is necessary; however, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to sign in and for pre-race instructions. Participants will run or walk 5K around the paved path (two laps) located directly behind the main fitness center. T-shirts for the first 100 participants and prizes for the top three male and female finishers will be provided. For more information, please contact Seth Cannello at 567-6658.
Ready for the "MURPH"
The Fitness center will hold its annual Murph competition Dec. 14. The Murph consists of a 1-mile run followed by 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, and 300 body squats followed by another 1-mile run. Contestants will have one hour to complete this grueling event. The pull ups, push ups, and body squats can be completed in any order (i.e. doing sets of five pull ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats) but the 1-mile runs must "book end" the event. You must preregister for this event no later than Dec. 12. You will receive your start time when you register. All participants completing the event in less than 60 minutes will receive a free T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female participants. PAFB Education Center holds open house
Webster University, Pikes Peak Community College, and Colorado Christian University are having an open house Dec. 6, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Peterson Education Center, Bldg. 1141, Rm. 113A. Please stop by for lunch and check them out. Sandwiches, soda and snacks will be provided. Have all your questions answered. You can apply, register, and receive advisement. Denver Nuggets tickets on sale
The ITT office is selling Denver Nuggets. Prices range from $20-152 depending on seats. Tickets will not be available for the Miami Heat, LA Lakers and New York Knicks games. DOD conducts insurance open season
DOD NAF Health and Dental Insurance Enrollment Open Season will run Nov. 5-30 for enrollment effective Jan. 1. Don't miss this opportunity if you would like to enroll, dis-enroll or make changes to your current plan. Fitness Center running holiday hours
The Main Fitness Center will be operating under holiday hours, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day. The Fitness Center Annex will be closed.
The Main Fitness Center and the Fitness Center Annex will be closed Nov. 22 in observance of Thanksgiving. On Nov. 23, the Main Fitness Center will be operating under holiday hours, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m., and the Fitness Center Annex will be closed.
Basketball court to close
The basketball court at the Main Fitness Center will be closed Nov. 2, 3 p.m. to Nov. 3 at noon in support of an official function and again Nov. 30 in support of the 50SW Promotion Ceremony.
1/4 mile track closes
The outdoor running track and infield are closed indefinitely due to construction. Please keep clear of the construction area until further notice.

Fitness center holds TRX suspension training
The Fitness Center will host two free TRX Suspension Training sessions. This orientation course is perfect for PTLs. Suspension Training workouts give participants an edge over conventional strength training because every Suspension Training bodyweight exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. The first session is Nov 15, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and the second session is Nov. 15, 1-5 p.m. The sessions will be held in the indoor running track. Participants should wear appropriate athlete attire for hands-on exercise training; Air Force physical training gear is not required. Space is limited to 16 people per session. General election held Nov. 6
It's not too late to submit your ballot. If you have not received your requested absentee ballot, now is the time to submit a Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot to ensure it arrives by election day, November 6, 2012. Schiever holds civilian health insurance benefits fair Oct. 29
Not sure what health insurance is best for you? Representatives from health insurance providers will be available to help you make the decision that is best for you. Health benefit representatives will have information to pass out and answer your questions about health care plans. The Health Insurance Benefits Fair is open to all appropriated fund employees. The event will be held in building T-135 next to the Main Fitness Center on Monday, Oct 29, 1:30pm-2:30pm.

Bundles for Babies class held Nov. 7
Are you expecting, or do you know someone who is expecting? If so, the next Bundles for Babies class will be held Nov. 7 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg 101 where Ent is located. Funded by the Air Force Aid Society, this class includes such topics as the financial aspects of raising a child, how to maintain couplehood when children enter the picture, and ways of dealing with the stresses of having a new baby. Fathers even have the chance to experience how mom feels by wearing an Empathy Belly. Active-duty Air Force and DoD civilian personnel/spouses who are awaiting the birth of a child are eligible for a free bundle of baby items worth over $60.00. Tierra Vista Communities holds town hall meeting
Tierra Vista Communities will host its quarterly Community Information (Town Hall) meeting at the Community Center on today, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Discussion items include: Community Enrichment Council updates, fall weather and winterization tips, utility billing program, solar construction update, and review scheduled community events for October, November, and December. All residents are encouraged to attend, resident engagement is crucial to the growth and enrichment of the community, ask questions, provide suggestions, voice concerns, and obtain direct feedback concerning issues and events related to our community.

OSI Travel Briefing Change
