8/5/2008 - SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- An officer once assigned to the now deactivated 76th Space Operations Squadron, a former unit of Schriever, returned to the 50th Space Wing to assume command of 2nd SOPS in a ceremony August 1 at the DeKok Building.
Lt. Col. DeAnna Burt succeeded Lt. Col. Kurt Kuntzelman, who will remain at Schriever as the deputy commander of the 50th Operations Group.
Colonel Burt returns to Schriever after an assignment at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. as Chief, Combat Plans Division, Joint Space Operations Center. Her other assignments include Crew Commander, Deputy Flight Commander, and Chief, Current Operations of the 4th Space Warning Squadron at Holloman AFB, N.M., instructor at the U.S. Air Force Weapons School Space Division at Nellis AFB, Nev., and Theater Missile Defense Operations Officer and Deputy Chief, Special Technical Operations Branch, Headquarters European Command at Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany.
Colonel Burt graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Fla. in December 1991 and received her commission. Her military education includes Undergraduate Space Training at Lowry AFB, Colo., U.S. Air Force Weapons School at Nellis AFB, Nev., Intermediate Developmental Education, Air Command and Staff College and School of Advanced Air and Space Studies at Maxwell AFB, Ala.
Her awards include a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Joint Service Commendations Medals, two Air Force Commendation Medals, a Joint Service Achievement Medal and an Air Force Achievement Medal.
As commander of 2nd SOPS, Colonel Burt will be responsible for more than 150 military and Department of Defense civilian personnel operating the Global Positioning System, the largest military satellite constellation, while conducting 24-hour satellite operations, providing navigation and timing signals to over one billion military and civilians users worldwide. |
