The 50th Contracting Squadron is a component of the 50th Mission Support Group, 50th Space Wing, Schriever Air Force Base, Colo., and was activated Aug. 14, 1995.
The squadron provides wing-level operational and specialized contracting guidance and support for the 50th Space Wing's worldwide contract programs valued at more than $1.5 billion. 50th CONS provides oversight on more than 1,000 contracting actions annually in support of Schriever AFB, Onizuka Air Force Station, Calif., Air Force Space Command and the Secretary of Defense. The squadron is also responsible for contractual support of the United States Air Force Warfare Center and other 50th Space Wing tenant units, in addition to administration of the 50th Space Wing Quality Assurance and Small Business programs.
Air Force Space Command activated the 50th Contracting Squadron as a component of the 50th Logistics Group on Aug, 14, 1995. In a wing reorganization, the command reassigned the squadron to the 50th Support (later Mission Support) Group, effective Dec. 1, 1997.
From humble beginnings as temporary tenants in the West Entry Control Facility, to today with more than 70 assigned personnel. The unit has been the catalyst for the changing face of Schriever AFB. By increasing annual dollars obligated from $97 million in fiscal 2004 to the present value of $232 million, 50 CONS's growth has mirrored that of the wing.
Contract awards in excess of $220 million for fiscal 2005 ranked 50 CONS as ninth largest in total dollars obligated among 83 operational contracting squadrons across the Air Force, posturing the unit with a strong business base for future growth as they continue to execute the critical needs of our space warfighters.
50 CONS has received numerous Air Force and MAJCOM-level unit and individual accolades to include the 2005 AFSPC Outstanding Contracting Unit Award; Secretary of the Air Force Outstanding Acquisition Professional for 2004; Air Force Small Business Specialist of the year 2002, 2004, 2013 and 2015; Air Force Small Business Unit Award for 2014; unit designation as winners of the 2002 and 2004 Air Force Small Business Special Achievement Award; and Air Force Contracting Civilian of the Year for 2015. In addition, 50 CONS earned 6 out of 15 various categories for all of AFSPC contracting awards for 2015.
