This week

Schriever Base Shuttle Service

Schriever is operating a base shuttle service on a trial basis through Nov. 15. The shuttle operates in a loop with six stops to help Team Schriever personnel get to activities such as medical appointments, briefings, meetings and unit physical training at the fitness center. The shuttle operates 9:15 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, family days and base closures. Stops include:

  • North restricted area portal
  • 50th Space Wing Headquarters/medical clinic
  • Fitness center
  • 310th SW Headquarters
  • U.S. Air Force Warfare Center
  • West restricted area portal

During the trial period, only one shuttle bus will operate in the restricted area. Questions may be directed to Terrence Galloway, 50th Logistics Readiness Flight, at 567-7212.

 

On base

Exceptional Family Member Workshop

The Airman and Family Readiness Center is scheduled to host an EFMP workshop presented by Peak Parent 9-11 a.m. Oct. 17. Please call 567-3920 to register for the workshop. 

 

Required Annual Training: Sexual Assault and Suicide Prevention Awareness

Time is running out to complete required annual training for sexual assault and suicide prevention awareness. If you need to complete this training, please plan to attend one of the scheduled classes below. For more information, please contact Jessica Ditson, 50th Space Wing Violence Prevention Integrator (VPI), at 567-2647.

The 21st Medical Squadron will be closed the following dates:

  • 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Oct. 10 (training day)
  • 12-4:30 p.m. Oct. 11 (family day)
  • All day Oct. 14 (holiday)

 

Air Force Spark Tank 2020: Submission Deadline Oct. 16

The submission deadline for Air Force Spark Tank 2020 is Oct. 16. Airmen should submit ideas to their chain of command to participate in the competition. Submissions must include:

  1. A one-two page white paper, single-spaced, size 12-point font with the names of each team member.
  2. A completed entry in the Air Force Ideation platform at usaf.ideascalegov.com.
  3. A video summarizing the idea and making the pitch, no longer than three minutes. Videos are not required to be professionally created or produced, however all videos must be approved by the 50th Space Wing Public Affairs office prior to submission. Once approved, public affairs will load your video onto the Defense Video Information Distribution Service and provide a link to include on the Ideation platform.

Defense Travel System Training Courses

A three-day hands-on training course for DTS approving/reviewing officials is scheduled Oct. 22-24 at Schriever Air Force Base. Additionally, a four-day training course for DTS leads/organizational travel administrators is scheduled Oct. 29-Nov. 1, at Schriever AFB. Federal Employee Health, Benefits Open Season: Nov. 11-Dec. 19

The Schriever Civilian Personnel office is scheduled to host a health information fair 9-10 a.m. Nov. 6 in the atrium of Building 210 on Schriever AFB, to help civilian employees prepare for the federal employee health benefits open season. Knowledge Management Center Provides Training

The Knowledge Management Center provides recurring classes for knowledge management programs. The following classes are offered the first and third Thursday of the month in Building 301, Room 119:

  • Records Management: 12-1:30 p.m.
  • Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act: 1:45 - 3:15 p.m.
  • Publications and Forms class: 1-3 p.m. (every third Thursday of the month)

Government Civilian Employee Benefits Presentation: Space is limited

Schriever AFB is scheduled to host a federal benefits presentation for Schriever federal employees and their spouses 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 14, at Airman and Family Readiness in Building 101. Space is limited, registration is required. The information is helpful for employees at any stage of their careers. Presentation topics covered will include:

  • Federal pensions
  • Federal health care
  • Life insurance options
  • Federal long-term care options
  • Thrift Savings Plan
  • Retirement options, application process
  • Social security
  • Estate planning

Fitness Center Adjusts Manning

Fitness center staff will no longer provide coverage on federal holidays and family days associated with Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. Customers who are registered for after-hours access can still use the fitness center during these days. After-hours access is available 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. To register for after-hours access, or for more details, call the fitness center front desk at 567-6628.

 

Air Force Seeks Logistics Planners

Off-base

Colorado Homeless Veterans Stand Down

The El Paso County Homeless Veterans Coalition will host a stand down to support Colorado homeless veterans 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Colorado Springs Auditorium, Colorado. Several military, veteran and community support organizations will provide a variety of services and products, such as clothing, personal care items, haircuts, flu shots, dental and hearing tests, housing referrals and help with job searches. Details about volunteer opportunities for Schriever Airmen are forthcoming. For more information, contact the Schriever AFB Airmen and Family Readiness Center at 567-3920.

Military Retirees Activities Office  

The Military Retiree Activity Office hosts a monthly meeting for all military retirees and their spouses on the second Thursday of every month at 11:30 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday at the Peterson Air Force Base Club. The guest speaker is Jennifer Moss, Peterson AFB Club manager.

The Society of Military Widows

The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouse’s rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets at 10:30 a.m. on the last Wednesday of the month at the Peterson AFB Club, Colorado.
