  • Chief's Corner - week of Nov. 10

    Understand the BRS
  • Who are the ‘users’?

On Aug. 6 and 9, 1945, Airmen answered our nation’s call delivering two atomic bombs devastating our enemy. Seventy one years later, Airmen from the 50th Space Wing are an essential component to ensure the 509th Bomber Wing remains postured to deliver thermonuclear weapons against any potential foe.
  • Keeping traditions

Based on some discussions I’ve had with Chief Master Sgt. John Bentivegna, 50th Space Wing command chief, and as a retired veteran, I want to talk about some traditions I feel seem to be eroding away. I feel that I have a responsibility as a wing senior leader and veteran to ensure we don’t forget about some of these traditions because I enjoyed them when I was on active-duty. I enjoy them today and I hope they continue when I’m gone.
  • Hyten bids farewell

To the men and women of Air Force Space Command,As my last message to you as AFSPC commander, I wanted to let you know how much you mean to Laura and me.  We are humbled and proud to have served with you for the last four years, first as your vice commander, and finally as your commander.  Over that time, we accomplished a lot and moved the ball
  • Taking care of Airmen- The importance of feedback

If you have been to one of my Commander’s calls, promotion ceremonies or other events, you probably have heard me say, “Take care of your Airmen and everything else will take care of itself.” I am a true believer in this statement, and I put it into practice at every opportunity. This is in-line with the Air Force Space Command’s number three priority – taking care of our Airmen and our families.
  • Chief's Corner - week of Oct. 20

Chiefs get asked the darndest things
  • Why I Wear the Uniform

If you were to ask me why I joined the Air Force, I would have the same old, general answers.  I would say that I wear the uniform for the education benefits, for a chance to travel the world and to learn a new job.  That’s all true.  Those are the main reasons I joined and it’s what I tell everyone when I’m asked why I joined.  However, now there
  • 'If you got it, we bought it'

Happy Fiscal New Year to all and good-bye fiscal 2016! For those not aware, your 50th Contracting Squadron and 50th Comptroller Squadron celebrated the end of fiscal 2016 Sept. 30 and the start of fiscal 2017 Oct. 1, and we made history doing it.
  • Chief’s Corner – week of Oct. 6

Consider the act of contribution--the part played by a person in bringing about a result. How are we contributing to the Air Force on a daily basis? How we contribute individually feeds team accomplishments and, more broadly, contributions to the Air Force mission and our country. In our personal lives we can ask the same question. How do we contribute to our relationships and our families to make them better?
  • 50th Space Wing innovation: Drive, survive

As I write this article, I’m pulling from two recent events. First, the Air Force’s 69th birthday on Sept. 18th is a reminder of how the Air Force originated, who we are as Airmen and where we’ve been. Second, our recent Unit Effectiveness Inspection (UEI) has brought the 50th Space Wing’s focus and activity into the forefront.
