SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.-- --

For those wondering where diamond sharp awards are shaped, where all those chairs, tables, bounce houses and more come from at our base picnics, or where these items retreat to when the festivities are over, the answer lies with the 50th Force Support Squadron’s Outdoor Recreational Warehouse.

This seemingly infinite array of supplies is not a product of a magic genie lamp stored away in the back recesses of the restricted area. They come from a little known secret to some that may be just as prized - an entire facility dedicated to outdoor recreational activities, storage and rental services, and custom engravings for Schriever members and their families.

The 50 FSS is a foundation for morale here, and the squadron’s Outdoor Recreational Warehouse is the cornerstone of that foundation.

The warehouse, located outside of the RA in Building 805, houses a variety of services, such as sports/camping gear rentals, with items ranging from bikes and backpacks, life vests, folding chairs and ice chests, to larger items such as campers and tents. Adjacent to the building is a recreational vehicle parking lot where customers can store their vehicles for future use.

Items that support large and festive occasions, such as the base picnics and sports days, are sourced there, with the aforementioned bounce houses and other inflatable items open for rental when available, and corn hole game units and trailers among other event supplies.

"It's a benefit for any base personnel," said Chris Halvorsen, 50 FSS recreational assistant. “We’re in Colorado, it's a great place to be outdoors. Most people don't have the space or the money to buy and store their own equipment, so why not get it from here, for a good price, and go enjoy this place where most of us are probably going to only spend a few years."

Most of the trophies, awards, medals and other engraving products that serve as symbols of pride and achievement for many are also assembled and personalized in the warehouse.

"This is where all the equipment is and where I do the work," said Wendy DeRosier, head of engraving and framing. "Picture framing and engraving is a service we offer anybody on Schriever. Quarterly awards, going away gifts any personal stuff someone would like me to do. If they can get on Schriever I can do their picture framing and engraving for them."

With it’s wealth of services, the warehouse operates as a center point beneficial for all Schriever members.

"Utilize what you have on-base," said DeRosier. "The warehouse is convenient. You're already coming to Schriever for work and we're right here for you. We exist to serve you."

Appointments must be set-up through the Information, Tickets and Travel office for larger rentals. Walk-ins are permitted for renting smaller items.

For more information about the Outdoor Recreation Warehouse and its services contact the ITT office at 567-6050 or the warehouse directly at 567-4370.
